Adventures with hypnosis Relaxation_______________
In 1949, I had a real problem with a dental phobia. Four dentists had rejected me as a patient. He two abscessed teeth and a mouthful of other cavities. My dental phobia was so bad that I was forced to go to a hospital for some years to have three abscessed teeth removed while was unconscious.
I went to a dental convention where I found the dentist recommends that hypnosis. I could not work on my teeth, but said he thought I could help. Thus, in the lunch break, I went to his room with several other dentists, and I was mesmerized with a "standard" induction technique. Then he showed me a trick psychological relaxation. If I raised my left hand where I felt my right hand, making a fist, showing the tension, the dentist stopped, and I relax my right hand and lower left.) I did not think it would work, but I made an appointment with the dentist I rejected what had happened and recommended hypnosis.
For the first few minutes, went up the left hand, and stopped immediately. After So I need to lift his left hand much at all, and worked quickly.
He took the two bad teeth, and drilled and filled with a dozen more in one hour and a half session. I had Novocain for the bad, and did not need it to others. Both the dentist and were amazed at this, and asked if they were really twins
For me, a 22-year-old engineering student, this was a real miracle, and I began to learn everything I could about this miracle cure. I read everything I could find, the 1700 literature on Mesmer, Coue, etc, to Erickson, Barber, etc.
Me became an electronic engineer, and continued my career in this important, but my vocation is still hypnosis, and by extension, psychology. (Much the psychology of behavior is similar to hypnosis). I've used professionally, taught at a major university physicians, and continued to learn from it. I made some swatches, and considered a career as a stage hypnotist, but was more interested in using it to help people, because I had helped.
In 1979, I left the electronics engineering, and turned to psychology. I went back and earned a doctorate in psychology on the basis of my education, life experience, and my dissertation. I became a behaviorist successfully for years in private practice in Florida. Gradually become a orthomolecular practice when I learned that these types of therapies worked better than any therapy to "talk", though talk therapy is sometimes useful.
Hypnotic relaxation
During the many years of study, and later his career as a psychologist, I realized that what the original dentist had me hypnotized reality. With hypnosis, you simply had a "new" conscious relaxation tool. The use This simple tool, I could change something in my subconscious called a "phobia". It was truly a miracle, although I had thought at the time. The addition of this knowledge to my knowledge Pavlov's "conditioned responses" I came up with what I have called the relaxation technique Bate.
This is very simple, but can be very powerful – much stronger than most overlooked due to its simplicity. It usually starts with a hypnotic induction technique to relax muscles of the body, starting with the toes and going up to the scalp and face. Then, in a state of muscular relaxation, ask the patient to visualize very beautiful relaxing scene he / she is in Describing the scene. Ask them to concentrate on how beautiful and relaxing it is.
Then ask the patient to remember the feelings of relaxation and concentration that are feeling at that moment. Make these sentiments in his memory like a photograph. Then give post-hypnotic suggestion that they can now remember the growing feeling that just count to three. End of Session, and are intended to walk, take a breath deep and simply count to three.
It's just unbelievable how men often fall of 2.3 inches or some other muscles that the overall theme times of stress relaxation. I describe the "strange" as a kind of feeling blah "a" feeling. (As subjects get out of the meeting, its "normal" muscle tension takes effect, and the "immediate" relaxation is certainly experienced.)
I then tell the subject they now have the pattern, but it is they use frequently, several times a day, though not necessary, for the week. This will set the pattern in your unconscious as a "conditioned response". (Remember Pavlov's dog?) Now, have the same tool I got from the original dentist, but is much more enhanced and valuable. In the act relieves the stress of any kind.
Driving a car long distance is very stressful. My wife and I recently took over 20 hours straight through, with me driving the nearly 14 hours. At 78 years of age who is not "usual". The secret – they both just count to three at a time and are able to relax behind the wheel. Muscle tension is too hard, and few are able to relax muscle tension is behind the wheel.
This relaxation technique is very useful in many ways to help resolve psychological problems of phobias, compulsions, and even some serious physical problems. I able to solve dozens of problems with asthma in all people between 7 and 15 years old, and was often successful with the elderly as well. (The children in this range of age are very impressionable, and some adults are too cynical.)
The system is simple, but effective. First, teach relaxation. Then, the patient to emulate a very bad asthma attack. "Come on, really bad, your throat is closing more and more." It's getting worse and worse. "When the patient begins to be really in danger, he says, "Now, count to three." As you three, relax, and says: "Now is gone, and you are in control."
Many years ago I did this routine in the 14-year-old son of lifelong friends. When I was visiting a few years ago, I entered the shop the child, and I immediately recognized. I was surprised as it had been 20 years since he had seen me. He said: "Do you think I ever could forget the man who cured my asthma? "
It was another great day for my ego.
There is nothing magical or mysterious about it. All they are doing is teaching a new "trick" for the unconscious mind. This "trick" you learn instant relaxation as a conditioned response by repetition and use. It becomes a tool for the conscious mind for use in all situations to reduce stress. As everyone knows, stress ages us, diminishes the immune system and helps kill us.
The various forms of yoga and other meditation techniques are similar, but different. Relieving stress, of course, but are of little immediate use in stressful situations. This relaxation is immediate.
This can also be used for self-hypnosis, Positive affirmations and visualizations.
I also used it for patients who want to quit smoking as a substitute "for wanting instant next to an addicted smoker.
An idea that makes a lot of people "afraid" of hypnosis. The idea that another person has "control" over them, and they can do literally nothing. Every experiment ever conducted has shown that this is simply not true. Hypnosis can not force someone to do something that is against their moral code. The unconscious mind is very protective, and that is what we are working with either hypnosis or subliminal training.
Any chance of "indirect" the misuse of hypnosis. On one occasion saw a hypnotist that demonstrates this. There was a very attractive woman who was very hypnotizable (at sleepwalking instant snapping his fingers). The hypnotized and told to remove her clothes. He woke up instantly and was ashamed, but had no conscious recollection why.
Then hypnotized again and this time told her she was at home in your bathroom with the door closed, and was going to take a bath. She calmly began to remove her clothes. He stopped before going too far, but was obviously going to completely strip.
It is interesting to see how he stopped. He told her that someone had entered his house and was near the bathroom door. She said: "There go I'm not dressed."
Then had to get dressed, and woke up. She had no memory of events.
When I was young, I had a girlfriend who had sex with once or twice. And he had several times have also hypnotized. One night I wanted sex but did not. I hypnotized the signal, but in vain. She refused, even hypnotic. Thus, the idea that someone can do something that you do not want to do is false. I can vouch for that personally. Our unconscious mind is very protective of us in all aspects, although some areas may be wrong.
Of course, if you work well with hypnosis, subliminal training, or virtually any kind of psychology serious that needs to be aware of the unconscious mind, since that entity is always what he wants to influence.
Hypnotic age regression
This is a very useful tool for a psychologist or, for that matter, any doctor in any band. Even under the "light" hypnosis can be used to "pull" the details of the life of the patient that he / she has forgotten consciously. (Unconscious memory has everything on it.)
There several "tricks of the trade" in question. After my relaxation technique, I used a "deepening" of the art that went something like this, "Now, I want imagine and visualize yourself going down an escalator and count to ten. One of them, imagine stepping on and feel the shape of steps under your feet. Two, as you move toward down, relax even more. Three, as they come down even more, concentrate more and more. Four, and while you relax more, you can concentrate more. Five positive circle of concentration and relaxation continues as you scroll down. "
Continue to repeat similar across nine, and then "ten, down the stairs to a room. This room is yours alone. It is only in his mind, and no one else can enter it. You can do whatever you want. In this room, you can do anything or see anything that will help you become a better person. In this room can remember everything you want. "
Then start the interrogation. For example, a man came to me to try to find a falling value of the diamond engagement ring. He and his girlfriend was broken, and had returned the ring to him. He agreed to take the ring, but when she got home, I could not find at all. I did the prior art, and then began.
I said. "I want to return in time for the moment that gave him the ring." Where were you and her then? "
He replied: "We were in his living room."
"Okay, sees himself taking the ring. What did with him? "
He said, "I'm putting in my small pocket watch of my jeans."
"OK, now you're going to it. What happened next? "
"I'm getting in my car and drive home"
"Well, what happens next? "
"I go to my room and change clothes."
"Why?"
"I have to go to a baseball presentation dinner.
"OK, what did you do with your jeans?"
"Oh no! I'd put in the washer! "
That is history. He went home and found the ring stuck in the washer. (The usual story is that the same is trapped in drain U "under a sink.) This illustrates the value of" age regression "as a memory aid.
Of course, it is also useful for discovering the origins of phobias and compulsions. A woman came to me with a phobia of cat and asthma. I did the usual as above, and a couple of useful techniques that are the trouble. A "trick" is to say, "Well, now we go back in time. It is his 15th birthday. You are awake in the morning. Do you have asthma?"
She replied: "Yes." (She had said previously about the intake of interrogation that asthma had begun very early. I start well beyond that to get the patient used to go back.)
"Ok, now ten years, just woke up on your birthday. Does asthma now? "Same answer.
"OK, you're now five years on his birthday. Do you have asthma now?" The same response
He worked again through 4 and 3 and 2, 1, and started back in months. I reached the ninth month, and she had asthma. Still had no memory of everything that was related. So I went to the tenth month, and went back every day with the same question. The day I have had asthma. Now I asked: "What happened to you during the last day did you have asthma?" I'll count to three, and when you get three, I remember everything. "One, you're beginning to remember. Two, the memory returns. Three, I remember everything. "
Then related, "I was lying on his back in a crib, and the cat jumped onto the cot, and stood in my mouth. I could not breathe, or call, and I was scared. I do not know what happened, but I think I hit the cat, and she was with me. "
It was two birds with one stone. Caterpillar Phobia, and asthma at the time. Asthma is often a "protective" device used to maintain oxygen in the body. Breathe more easily, but have real trouble breathing out. This was his case.
Then we got to the really interesting. Age regression to past lives. As an agnostic, I really do not know if the many stories I have heard from many people who are true, or something of the mind universal, or what?
Probably the single most impressive of the story is the man who came to me with two lifelong phobias I had had since the earliest memory. He was deathly afraid of fire and water. I thought that these phobias may be from past lives, and asked me to try to find out.
It was easily hypnotizable, and low light again urged a previous life. It had been a circus clown, and were burned to death in a circus fire. That was simple to return to a life before that. It seems he had stolen a horse, and was captured. The guards do not have a tree, so they hung him from a bridge. The rope broke and drowned. Of course, it took much longer to happen, and some suggestions for me. It was cured according to a phone call a week later.
I have had several of these interesting cases. Another was fascinating to me. Under hypnosis, a man said: "All I can see is a bird." I followed after from him about this bird for 10 minutes or more, but he could not see much more of this bird. Finally, he said, "It's a black bird, and it is my shield."
I insisted most on his shield, Was a sword and a horse. Suddenly he shouted: "There is blood all around me, and everything about me and my horse. I'm killing people around with my sword, and they're trying to kill you! "
, I asked him about, and it became evident that the date was 1066 in the battle Hastings and the Normans conquered England.
Is the story true? I can not say for sure, but it was impressive.
When I gave seminars and talks about hypnosis, usually ended with doing my relaxation technique, and my deepest. So I would say "In your room, sit comfortably, I want you to let your mind leave your body. Let him go to space, and as you see the ground behind you and the family's blue and white marble, seeing space as almost velvety with the stars and planets is very clear and firm. It's really beautiful here, in space. Now you are coming to a white cloud that is getting bigger and bigger, and is now entering it. On the other hand, there is another world of blue marble. As you approach, it looks like Earth, but as you get really close, you see the big cities, but beautiful parks and beautiful buildings that appear to be part of the landscape. How to get to it, and walk, it appears that people are all friends, and animals are all friends, and gardens and parks throughout are simply the finest you've ever seen. You are full of the same kind of happiness that seems that everyone has. You are at peace with itself and place. "
"Now it's time to go, and go back to space again." Ahead of us is that the same white cloud, and this time to get into it, that left turn, and now we're back in time. The year is 1700 on Earth, and as we returned to Earth at the time, we're going to each of a body at that time and place. I want to look at their feet and their clothes and their environment, and have a sense of who you are in that body. Now it's back. Us 're leaving this place and time, and back through the white cloud, and back to the blue marble from the earth and back to that comfortable seat, and within his own body. As counting three backward Gong to wake him, not drowsy or sleepy or affected by my voice to all and remember everything you experienced. "
So, short story, "Three, two, one, wake up wide awake. Now, how many people really experienced that beautiful planet?"
Around a third or more really see clearly. (Some were a little mad at me for not allowing more time!) Then I asked, "Now, how many people experienced in 1700? "Surprisingly, about a third were very good and clear display. A woman was indignant" I had bare feet, and scratched his legs, and I was a woman who serves. "She had a high opinion of herself in this life, obviously. Needless to say, these stories were very interesting and varied. A woman who struck me, "I was in a dark place waiting to be born."
Of course, these stories do not prove nothing. They may be products of the imagination, or simply pieces of some unconscious or universal mind. However, or whatever it is, in large quantities honest people, uninteresting acquaintances, they do try something beyond our conscious awareness.
An "Impossible" History
Here is a story true it's unbelievable to many people. In reading about hypnosis, I found an article where a professional hypnotist had said he had been able to increase the size of a woman's breasts through hypnosis. I dismissed that claim, until 1978, I read an article by Dr. Ted X. Barber in the Official Clinical Hypnosis on hypnotic phenomena. This article discusses many different hypnotic phenomena, including several experiments at various universities different that it had conducted a similar experiment. If I remember correctly (in this much later date), using 8.12 each university women, all of which were somewhat flat chest, and everyone wants bigger breasts.
All were carefully measured, both above and below the breasts real, and through them to the nipples. Once a week for 12 weeks, who were hypnotized as a group, and said to see things like, "See yourself in a mirror, naked with breast large. Admire their breasts bigger. See how well you see, and what good it feels to them. Now, see yourself with a very becoming dress, and how good it looks on you with your new breasts. Increase your self confidence too. "
These comments were repeated several times. As I recall, the average of all experiments was that 80% increased their breast size, and the average increase was 2.1 inches.
Take a deeper look at this. The rate success rate for weight loss with hypnosis is considered less than 65%. In other experiments unless indicated size breast, decreased breast size women with breasts too large, the success rate was negligible.
Moreover, this suggestion is specific – Increase the body's cells to a particular only body part! We do not know if the actual breast cells have been added, or only fat cells, but still!
I have won two other psychologists betting that this story was published in a reputable scientific journal. I made a hypnosis tape specifically for "the extension chest, and heard for some women who have already bought that, indeed, work for them. Unfortunately, few people report either success or failure.
Why not hypnosis work best on the task of "minor" to lose weight, lose weight or breast? The explanation is difficult, but in my experience, the social "advantage" to the big breasted women unconscious inhibits the loss of this "Advantage". Some women are "punished" its being (or their husbands) for being overweight. (A kind of "Love me for me, not my body"). The reasons for the unconscious mind are often obscure and difficult to our conscious mind to understand. The computer analogy "garbage in – garbage out 'applies here.
Harmful Ideas unconscious
The unconscious mind can be a force for good or ill. Apparently not discriminate – again as a team. If a virus enters, can distort the many other programs in different ways.
Let's examine a case in point. A woman brought her 8-year-old for hypnosis for bedwetting. I did the usual direct suggestion, and told him to keep him off all dairy products for at least a week.
Two days later, she and her son were back. Without success. This time, I did hypnosis age regression. He (with a little urging) to when I was 4. I was in bed almost asleep when he heard someone trying to get into her window. Was wet so scared and cried. The thief (real or imagined) to the left. The unconscious The "logic" to this guy – urination protects against intruders at night. It was difficult to remove this logic (computer virus), and his mother said he had not wet again a few months later.
The great master of therapy hypnosis, Milton Erickson, once had an almost comical that resolved in a unique way. It seems that a newly married couple came to him, because everyone was wetting the bed. On their honeymoon, the bed was wet every morning, and each thought the other was very careful not to mention it. After a few days, each one of them confessed and came to Erickson.
They did agree to do exactly what he said, and then told to kneel on the bed when they were ready to sleep and everyone had to pee, and then sleep on it. They returned several days later, and had kept his word. Then he said: "Since you did what I said, tonight you can go to bed normally without the need to urinate, and come back tomorrow. "Next day, said the bed was dry in the morning, therefore "allowed" to another dry night. Then another, and then declared "cured."
These two stories illustrate the immense power of the unconscious for better and for worse. One of the main tasks of the unconscious mind is to "protect" the physical body (home of the unconscious mind) of damage. If we perceive a real or imagined threat, which comes into action, even if the action can be harmful to himself.
